Jeroen, the native tagging thing is embedded in the category table, disabling it is just not possible.

Is it maybe an option to create a plugin to disable the native tagging thing? Just like there is a plugin to disable the WordPress Widget and use Sidebar Modules instead ( http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/disable-wordpress-widgets/ )

I cant believe this – I can’t even imagine using WordPress without UTW….

Does the new WordPress have a tag cloud function? I don’t even feel like upgrading :(

Also, they announced that a built-in tagging system is in the works. So it’s definitely something to check out. While waiting for the latest stable release, I started reading up on what to expect and what’s new. I then found out that for me to use my theme with 2.3, I would have to sacrifice some of the plugins my theme uses. I would hate to leave Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW), but Christine already announced that there will be no more development for the awesome plugin and that there are currently “Things” that can make the new tag system “behave” like UTW. Of course, it’s not the same thing, but it’s still something to ease the pain of losing UTW. [...]

It’s under Manage > Import . . . lots of wonderful things to import from. I just don’t think i can ever part with UTW, but it almost seems like these WordPress Things will ultimately be rolled into a new UTW, using wordpress’s built in tagging, rather than maintaining a separate one. Sounds even more convenient, now it would be just a front-end. Can’t wait to get ahold of more of your plugin work!

Hmm… I don’t have an install of WordPress 2.3 handy; but I’m pretty sure it’s one of the options under a top level Import admin page.

I have a feeling there’s also a link at the bottom of the category edit screen. But I’m less sure about that since it doesn’t make as much sense as being on the Import page.

How do I find the importer thingy? I’m having a hard time finding it.
